This cedar garden obelisk was built in about half a day using simple tools and straightforward joinery. The legs are cut with a compound angle, and the design creates a strong, balanced structure for climbing plants in the garden.

Project Summary

    • Build Time: About half a day

    • Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

    • Wood Used: Cedar (2×4 ripped for legs)

    • Height: ~6 ft

    • Use: Garden support for climbing plants

Materials

    • Cedar 2×4 (ripped for legs and frame)

    • Wood glue

    • Screws

    • Pre-made finial

Notes From The Shop

The legs are cut at approximately 7° in two directions to create the taper. Tier spacing was laid out progressively for balance. The structure was assembled from the top down, attaching each level as the frame came together.

A pre-made finial was used to save time and simplify the build.

This obelisk pairs well with the license plate birdhouse from the shop.
